 One of the great Trout Bums that left his tying vice way too early.  He tied such great flies that only used a few materials and a few wraps of thread.  Take the time to read SI article on him:

The Gartside New Wave Soft Hackle Streamer is one of those simple 2 or 3 material flies that have a ton of movement in the water.  I love to fish them downstream on the swing, they don't get very deep so you can see trout flash and slash at the fly at the surface which is just as exciting as hooking them.  Try yellow for browns.
